Mary and Terry skip the traditional family Christmas to go skiing in Tahoe. A four-day trip before the mad after-Christmas crush.
Squaw Valley, 12/23:
- Morning coffee at High Camp
- A little chilly, a little windy
- "Too steep!" underneath Siberia chair
- When all else fails, traverse out
- Making a turn where it's not so steep
- Moving out beneath the rocky ridge
- And coming to a stop before hitting the cameraman
- Taking a nutritious lunch break at High Camp
- Last run before sunset, above Squaw Creek
- A nice man takes a picture of both of us
Alpine Meadows, 12/24:
- First turns of the day in Wolverine Bowl
- Still getting the kinks out
- Fall line turns in the sun, Sun Spot
- Stupid happy to be skiing, The Chalet
- Steep and narrow Peril Ridge (Terry triggered a slide here last season)
- You can lead your wife to a cliff, but you can't make her jump
- Power lunch: chili and fries
- The afternoon's entertainment
- Saddle on the left, Palisades on the right
- Mary gets playful with the camera
Alpine Meadows, 12/25:
- Morning toast at the Chalet
- Right back at you, boy
- Big crowds on wind scoured slopes, Terry's Return and Saddle
- Arctic wind gusts to 65 mph, Alpine Bowl
- Hard to stand, can't hear each other shouting...trippy!
- Hiding from the wind, Lower Yellow
- Some more wind shelter, Sympathy Face
- Last turns of the trip (sniffle)
- A sun halo
- One last stop at the funky Alpine Lodge, then we're off
- All cleaned up, nothingleft to do but head home
